A program for players born in 2012 who want extra soccer in a more competitive setting during the spring.
You MUST be registered with the club's intramural program to take advantage of this program. Everyone who signs up is accepted into the program (as long as there's space). The academy teams are formed in addition to the regular intramural teams. This program will not replace current team rosters or schedules. This program will include extra practices and extra games under the supervision of an academy trainer.
You play against teams from other clubs in the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) travel program. Half of your games will be played in West Islip; the other half in towns on Long Island. Scores & standings will be kept.
Registration deadline is Dec 25. Only 14 spots per team. If the spots fill up, we HIGHLY recommend registering for the waiting list, because as soon as we have a few people on the waiting list, we'll be able to establish another team, as long as it's before the deadline. No payment is required to register for the waiting list. If accepted from the waiting list, you'll be asked to complete the registration and pay for your registration.
Late registration begins Feb 1 (a spot cannot be guaranteed)
This is a program for children with special needs. Please make sure you are registering for the correct program. Your child will not be considered registered until payment is received in full and birth date has been verified.
Soccer is played over an entire year, consisting of both the fall & spring season combined:
Although you can register your child at any time, teams are formed during the summer. The number of coaches needed for each age group is determined by the number of players registered at that time. Therefore it's important to register early enough (by the deadline), so the ratio of players per team is reasonable. You can see how important our volunteer coaches are to make this all happen. Please consider volunteering as a coach or assistant coach. If necessary, coaches will be recruited via telephone calls.
New players will be required to show proof of birth date, by uploading a copy of their birth certificate or passport during registration.
Your child's age group is determined by the year your child was born. Soccer uses an "under" designation, in which a player is under a certain age as of January 1 that falls during the soccer year (similar to school year).
Age groups for the 2020/21 soccer year:
West Islip Soccer Club offers recreational and competitive soccer for all players ages 2 - 19. Players will participate in one of five programs (more details below):
Mini Kickers is an EXCITING NEW PROGRAM focusing on the development of children born in 2017 & 2018. Our soccer experts have designed an innovative curriculum that introduces your young soccer stars to the basic skills needed in soccer as well as developing their motor, social, and psychological skills.
This is a recreational introduction to soccer for players born in 2017 and 2018. They meet 6 times per season (Fall or Spring) for 45 minutes and the cost is $85.
INTRODUCTION
Our coaches are experts at working with young children and will combine soccer with fun games; keep your children entertained and enthused to return next week. Come join our program.
Our Mini Kickers program will bring numerous benefits to the children participating in the program. A few of our program highlights are listed below:
Intramural players are those children born 2011 through 2016. The player's age group will be based on the year the players was born. For example, all children born in 2014 will play together. They play games against players from the same club.
There will be 8-10 games scheduled in the fall, and 8-10 games in the spring (depending on holidays). Most games are played on Saturdays at Manetuck Elementary school, with an occasional game on Friday evening or Sunday.
Family Registration Fees:
Register by July 31 and automatically save $25.
Register by August 7 and automatically save $20.
Register by August 14 and automatically save $15.
Register by August 21 and automatically save $10.
Register by August 28 and automatically save $5.
All intramural players will be placed on a team, based on their birth date. U7 through U9/10 players are drafted by coaches a few weeks prior to the start of the fall season. Late U7-U9/10 registrants will be placed on a team by the age group coordinator rather than being drafted by the coach. Therefore register before the deadline, so your U7-U9/10 child can be drafted.
U5 & U6 players are provided a shirt by the club. U7 through U9/10 players need to purchase a uniform at the Soccer Shack between Manetuck Elementary School and Udall Rd Middle School which is open during intramural games on Saturdays (and the occasional Sunday).
If you register before the deadline, you should expect a phone call from a coach about 2-3 weeks prior to the start of the season. If you register after the deadline, please keep in mind that all board members are volunteers, have busy lives, and often go on vacation during the summer months. The information you provide here will still require human intervention, and by multiple people (registrar, age group coordinator, coach, etc.) before your child is assigned to a team. Schedules are usually posted the week prior to the start of the season. Therefore we appreciate your patience and understanding.
U7 through U9/10 players are eligible to sign up for tournament teams which participate during the off-season when the league is not in play (see item 2a)
2a. Intramural Off-Season (including Tournaments)
During the weekends and weeks that there aren't any games scheduled, there's sometimes an opportunity for U7 through U9/10 intramural players to participate in a tournament, winter indoor league, indoor clinic, indoor practices, or summer league. These are all extra programs. If your child is interested in playing during off-season events, you will need to sign up your child for this. By signing up, you indicate INTENT to play these events. Based on the number of signups for a certain age group, the coaches for that age group will determine whether or not to sign up a team (or a few teams). Usually, the coordinator for that off-season program will let those who signed up know what events are available during that time frame. You can then indicate whether or not your child is available to play in that event.
Your cost will depend on the entrance fee for that event and the number of players participating in the event.
There are typically 3 signups throughout the year for this:
Signing up for off-season soccer, in effect puts you on the email list, so you'll be asked if you're interested in upcoming events for your age group.
Many tournaments have registration deadlines set by their tournament director. The West Islip Soccer Club does not control these deadlines. We set our registration deadlines based on these tournament registration deadlines. Once our teams and rosters are submitted to the director of these tournaments, it's all set. Therefore please make sure you register on time.
Tournaments are usually same day events or spread over a weekend (like Saturday AND Sunday; sometimes Friday evening and Saturday). Most outdoor tournaments are spread over 2 days. However, there are a few 1-day outdoor tournaments around. Indoor tournaments are typically 1-day events with shorter games. Most tournaments include 3-4 games.
Registering for the intramural off-season does not mean you're committing to playing specific tournaments. You basically indicate that you want to be contacted by a coach when an event, such as a tournament, comes up. The coach will give you the details of that event, and you can decide whether or not you want your child to participate. However, do not sign up to be on this list, unless you have intentions of playing in at least 1 of these events.
Overall, the intramural off-season tournaments/leagues are for those players who want to continue playing while there aren't any league games scheduled. It's extra soccer. These intramural off-season events are available to U7 through U9/10 intramural players.
2b. U9 Academy Program
A program for U9 players who want extra soccer. You MUST be registered with the club's intramural program to take advantage of this program. Everyone who signs up is accepted into the program. You play teams from other clubs in the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) travel program. Half of your games will be played in West Islip; the other half in towns in Long Island. Scores & standings will be kept.
This program is for the fall or spring season only. If interested in playing both seasons, you'll need to register separately for each season.
The $195 fee (after promo code emailed to current U9 intramural players) includes academy style training, LIJSL team & player fees, referee fees, paid professional coaching. Participants need to purchase a travel jersey.
This program will not replace current intramural team rosters or schedules. This program will include extra practices and extra games.
ALL communication will be done through email.
Academy teams are for U9 boys and girls who desire to play soccer in a more competitive setting. The academy teams are formed in addition to the regular intramural teams. The academy program gives players the opportunity to play extra soccer.
An informational meeting is usually held in May or June before Fall registration. It's HIGHLY recommended that you attend this meeting, as it will address how the academy program is different from the intramural program.
This is an "inter-town" recreational program for all non-travel players who are 10 or older before January 1 of the seasonal year. You play teams from other towns in the Suffolk Soccer Interleague (SSI). Half of the games are in West Islip, while the other half are games in surrounding towns. So limited travel is required. Interleague players are placed on a team depending on their age.
Family Registration Fees:
Register by July 31 and automatically save $25.
Register by August 7 and automatically save $20.
Register by August 14 and automatically save $15.
Register by August 21 and automatically save $10.
Register by August 28 and automatically save $5.
Interleague players are required to purchase a uniform. For more details, ask your team's coach.
You will be required to upload a digital picture of the player during the registration process (which will be used on the official player pass).
If you register before the deadline, you should expect a phone call from a coach by the 3rd week of August. If you register after the deadline, please keep in mind that all board members are volunteers, have busy lives, and often go on vacation during the summer months. The information you provide here will still require human intervention, and by multiple people (registrar, age group coordinator, coach, etc.) before your child is assigned to a team. Schedules are usually available the week prior to the start of the season. Therefore we appreciate your patience and understanding.
Starting with the 2020/21 season, this is a competitive program for players born in or before 2011. Players who have been selected after the team's tryouts are eligible to play in the travel program and participate in the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL). Tryouts are posted on our website during the late spring.
Travel players are required to try out for the teams in their respective age groups. Travel tryouts typicallyttypically place in June of each year (July in 2020). Tryout information can be found on the club's website and all eligible players will receive the necessary information from the coach of the team they're selected to play for. Most age groups have multiple travel teams with varying levels of competition. All age-eligible children are invited to try out. Coaches choose players based on skill level, team spirit effort, and roster limits (set by LIJSL). If a player is not selected on a travel team in a given seasonal year, they are welcome to play in our intramural (U10) or interleague (U11 or older) program and try out the following year. Roster limits vary by age group, so as the players get older, there is a need for more players on travel rosters.
plus family registration fees:
plus academy fee to cover the trainer fees in certain age groups:
Register by July 31 and automatically save $25.
Register by August 7 and automatically save $20.
Register by August 14 and automatically save $15.
Register by August 21 and automatically save $10.
Register by August 28 and automatically save $5.
Depending on the team, additional expenses for training, tournaments, cup entry, referees and off-season (winter and/or summer) leagues may be required. It is suggested that you ask the coach at tryouts to find out what additional expenses will be expected.
Travel eligible players who register for travel after the tryout will have to select their specific team when registering. Please be sure to register for the team you were selected on. If you have any questions about registering for a travel team, please contact your travel team coach.
You will be required to upload a digital picture of the player during the registration process (which will be used on the official player pass).
Travel players are required to obtain a uniform. Your coach will give you more details.
An informational meeting is usually held before U10 travel tryouts. It's HIGHLY recommended that you attend this meeting, as it will address how the program is different from the intramural & interleague programs.
4a. Travel Tryouts
Travel players are required to try out for the teams in their respective age groups. Travel tryouts typcially take place in June of each year. Tryout information can be found on the club's website and all eligible players will receive the necessary information from the coach of the team they're selected to play for.
This is a program for children with special needs. Many children with physical or mental disabilities will now have the opportunity to participate in soccer in a program that will enable them to play and progress at their own level. The program is designed for any children in the West Islip or neighboring communities with special needs.
The goals of the program are for the children to:
They play each week for approximately 1 hour. Each session consists of two parts. The first half hour is spent conducting drills and mini-games to teach the various soccer skills such as kicking, passing and shooting, as well as promoting teamwork by working with other children. The second half hour is a game/scrimmage. We split the children up each week based on age and ability and play a non-competitive game. There is no score kept and every team wins.
There will be a fall and spring season that will follow the intramural season. We also plan to participate in a tournament each season with clubs from other towns on Long Island with similar programs. This also is a non-competitive tournament that will enable the children to experience playing against other teams.
Family Registration Fees:
