NEW Player Registration

NEW players must register IN PERSON

Date & Time TBD at the Higbie Center (90 Higbie Ln)

use Sr Citizen Center entrance on right

Welcome

West Islip Soccer Club
Registration

If you are arriving on this page for the first time, please read all information.
It might save you a lot of frustration down the road.

Please make sure you are registering for the correct program.  Your child will not be considered registered until payment is received in full and birth date has been verified.

Soccer is played over an entire year, consisting of both the Fall & Spring season combined:

  • The Fall season typically starts the first weekend after Labor Day and runs through mid November.
  • The Spring season typically starts mid to late March and usually finishes around mid May for the intramural program and mid June for travel and interleague.

Although you can register a child at any time, teams are formed during the summer. The number of coaches needed for each age group is determined by the number of players registered at that time. Therefore it's important to register early enough (by June 26th), so the ratio of players per coach is reasonable. You can see how important our volunteer coaches are to make this all happen. Please consider to volunteer as a coach or assistant coach. If necessary, coaches will be recruited via telelphone calls.

IMPORTANT: New players can only register in-person (therefore not online) for a new season. In-person registration will be on [Date & Time TBD] at the Higbie Center (use Senior Citizen Entrance on right) at 90 Higbie Ln in West Islip. New players will be required to show proof of birth date, such as a birth certificate or passport.

Registrations after June 26th will be assessed a $25 late fee.

West Islip Soccer Club offers recreational and competitive soccer for all players ages 4 - 30.  Players will play in one of four programs (more details below):

  1. Intramural (a.k.a. in-house) for 4-10 year old players
    a. Off-Season (tournaments & training) for U7-U9/10 players
    b. Academy (competitive) for U9 players
  2. Interleague (a.k.a. intertown) for 10-30 year old players
  3. Travel (competitive) for 9 to 19 year old players
  4. High Flyers (for players with special needs)

1. Intramural Program

This is a recreational "in-house" program for players born on or before July 31, 2011. They play against players from the same club.

There will be 10 games scheduled in the Fall, and 8 games in the Spring. Most games are played on Saturdays at Manetuck Elementary school, with an occasional game on Friday evening or Sunday.

Family Registration Fees:

  • 1st Player: $130
  • 2nd Player: $130
  • 3rd Player: $50 *
  • 4th or more Player: $0 * (free)

    * all players must be registered together on 1 order to automatically receive the family discount

Registrations after June 26th are assessed a $25 late fee.

All Intramural players will be placed on a team, based on their birth date. U7 through U9/10 players are drafted by coaches. Late U7-U9/10 registrants will be placed on a team by the age group coordinator rather than drafted by the coach. Therefore register before the deadline, so your U7-U9/10 child can be drafted.

U5 & U6 players are provided a shirt by the club. U7 through U9/10 players need to purchase a uniform at the Soccer Shack between Manetuck Elementary School and Udall Rd Middle School which is open during intramural games on Saturday (and the occasional Sunday).

If you register online before the deadline, you should expect a phone call from a coach by the 3rd week of August. If you register online after June 26th, please keep in mind that all board members are volunteers, have busy lives, and often go on vacation during the summer months. The information you provide here will still require human intervention, and by multiple people (registrar, age group coordinator, coach, etc.), before your child is assigned to a team. Schedules are usually posted the week prior to the start of the season. Therefore we appreciate your patience and understanding.

U7 through U9/10 players are eligible to sign up for tournament teams which participate during the off season, when the league is not in play (see item 1b)

1a. Intramural Off Season (including Tournaments)

During the weekends and weeks that there are no games scheduled, there's sometimes an opportunity for U7 through U9/10 players to participate in a tournament, winter indoor league, or summer league. These are all extra programs.  If your child is interested in playing during off season events, you will need to sign up your child for this.  By signing up, you indicate INTENT to play these events.  Based on the number of signups for a certain age group, the coaches for that age group will determine whether or not to sign up a team (or a few teams).  Usually the coordinator for that off season program will let those who signed up know what events are available during that time frame.  You can then indicate whether or not your child is available to play in that event.

Your cost will depend on the entrance fee for that event and the number of players participating in the event.

There are typically 3 signups throughout the year for this: Fall (Columbus Day weekend tournament), Winter (indoor league, indoor gym, futsal and/or turf tournaments), and Spring/Summer (spring tournaments, Father's Day tournament, summer league).  Not all age groups will participate in a summer league.  It's usually decided by the coaches who volunteer for these events and will depend on the interest in these events.  Signing up for off season soccer, in effect puts you on the email list, so you'll be asked if you're interested in upcoming events for your age group.

Many tournaments have registration deadlines set by their tournament director. The West Islip Soccer Club does not control these deadlines. We set our registration deadlines based on these tournament registration deadlines. Once our teams and rosters are submitted to the director of these tournaments, it's all set. Therefore please make sure you register on time.

Tournaments are usually same day events or spread over a weekend (like Saturday AND Sunday; sometimes Friday evening and Saturday). Most outdoor tournaments are spread over 2 days. However, there are a few 1 day outdoor tournaments around. Indoor tournaments are typically 1 day events with shorter games. Most tournaments include 3-4 games.

Registering for the intramural off season, does not mean you're committing to playing specific tournaments. You basically indicate that you want to be contacted by a coach when an event, such as a tournament, comes up. The coach will give you the details of that event, and you can decide whether or not you want your child to participate. However, do not sign up to be on this list, unless you have intentions of playing in at least 1 of these events.

Overall, the intramural off season tournaments/leagues are for those players who want to continue playing while there aren't any league games scheduled.  It's extra soccer. These intramural off season events are available to U7 through U9/10 players.

1b. Academy Program

A program for U9 players who want extra soccer. You MUST be registered with the club's intramural program to take advantage of this program. Everyone who signs up is accepted into the program. You play teams from other clubs in the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) travel program. Half of your games will be played in West Islip; the other half in towns in Suffolk county. Scores & standings will be kept.

This program is for the Fall 2015 season.

The cost includes academy style training, LIJSL team & player fees, paid professional coaching, and a jersey.

This program will not replace current team rosters or schedules. This program will include extra practices and extra games.

ALL communication will be done through email.

Academy teams are for the U9 age boys and girls that desire to play soccer in a more competitive setting. The academy teams are formed in addition to the regular intramural teams. The academy program gives players the opportunity to play extra soccer.

An informational meeting is usually held before registration. It's HIGHLY recommended that you attend this meeting, as the program is different from the intramural program.

2. Interleague Program

This is an "inter-town" recreational program for all non-travel players who are 10 before August 1. You play teams from other towns in the Suffolk Soccer Interleague (SSI). Half of the games are in West Islip, while the other half are games in surrounding towns. So limited travel is required. Interleague players are placed on a team depending on their age.

Family Registration Fees:

  • 1st Player: $130
  • 2nd Player: $130
  • 3rd Player: $50 *
  • 4th or more Player: $0 (free)

    * all players must be registered together on 1 order to automatically receive the family discount

Registrations after June 26th are assessed a $25 late fee.

Interleague players are required to purchase a uniform. For more details, ask your team's coach.

3. Travel Program

This is a competitive program for players born or or before July 31, 2006 (U10 and older) who have been selected after the team's tryout are eligible to play in the travel program and play in the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL). Tryouts are posted on our website during the late spring.

Travel players are required to try out for the teams in their respective age groups. Travel tryouts take place in June of each year.  Tryout information can be found on the club's website and all eligible players will receive the necessary information from the coach of the team they're selected to play for.  If you are not already on a travel team and are interested in participating in the travel tryouts, you can register for travel and once selected on a travel team you'll be moved into that team. If you register for travel and you are not selected on a travel team, you will be moved into the intramural (U10) or interleague program (U11 or older). Most age groups have multiple travel teams with varying levels of competition. All age-eligible children are invited to tryout. Coaches choose players based on skill level, team spirit effort, and roster limits (set by LIJSL). If a player is not selected on a travel team in a given seasonal year, they are welcome to play in our intramural (U10) or interleague (U11 or older) program and tryout the following year. Roster limits vary by age group, so as the players get older, there is a need for more players on travel rosters.

  • Travel Fee: $125

plus family registration fees:

  • 1st Player: $130
  • 2nd Player: $130
  • 3rd Player: $50*
  • 4th or more Player: $0 (free)

    * all players must be registered together on 1 order to automatically receive the family discount

Depending on the team, additional expenses for training, tournaments, referee fees, and off-season leagues may be required. It is suggested that you ask the coach at tryouts to find out what additional expenses will be expected.

Travel eligible players who register for travel after the tryouts, will have to select their specific team when registering. Please be sure to register for the team you were selected on. If you have any questions about registering for a travel team, please contact your travel team coach.

You will be required to upload a digital picture of the player during the registration process (which will be used on the official player pass).

Travel players are required to obtain a uniform. Your coach will give you more details.

IMPORTANT:
If you are not already on a travel team and are interested in trying out for a travel team, you can register for travel now, and will be moved onto the team you're selected for after the tryouts (once the coach submits his roster to the travel coordinator). If you register for travel and are not selected on a travel team, you will be moved into the intramural (U10) or interleague (U11 and older) program and will receive a refund of the travel fee. Travel registration closes on June 26th.

An informational meeting is usually held before U10 travel tryouts. It's HIGHLY recommended that you attend this meeting, as the program is different from the intramural & interleague programs.

3a. Travel Tryouts

Travel players are required to try out for the teams in their respective age groups. Travel tryouts take place in June of each year.  Tryout information can be found on the club's website and all eligible players will receive the necessary information from the coach of the team they're selected to play for.

  • Second year travel players and older can tryout for older teams, but cannot play on younger teams.
Academy program participation is not considered first year of travel. Those players should check the birth date column closely.
  • U10 Players may only participate in the U10 Division with the exception of those players whose birthdates are from August 1 through November 30. Players whose birthdates fall between these dates, are enrolled in the appropriate school grade, AND have completed the U9 intramural season, are allowed the option to try out for selection by a U11 team.
  • Club policy requires attendance at one posted tryout per team, but it is highly recommend to attend both tryouts so the coach can properly evaluate the players.
  • Players can attend multiple tryouts.
  • If you try out for, and are selected by, more than one team you MUST play for the longer established team.
This ONLY applies to teams within the SAME age group. The first number after the letter B (for Boys) or G (for Girls) denotes which teams were established first (starting with 0 and counting up).
  • Do not attend tryouts for a team you don't want to be on!
  • Players should wear only shorts and tee shirts.
No uniforms with names on them!!!
  • Tryout schedules are subject change, so please check website daily.
  • All rainouts will be announced at the field and the tryout will be re-scheduled

4. High Flyers (Special Needs)

This is a program for children with special needs. Many children with physical or mental disabilities will now have the opportunity to participate in soccer in a program that will enable them to play and progress at their own level. The program is designed for any children in the West Islip or neighboring communities with special needs.

The goals of the program are for the children to:
- Have fun playing soccer
- Understand the fundamentals of the game
- Learn teamwork and fair play

They play each week for approximately 1 hour. Each session consists of two parts. The first half hour is spent conducting drills and mini games to teach the various soccer skills such as kicking, passing and shooting, as well as promoting teamwork by working with other children. The second half hour is a game/scrimmage. We split the children up each week based on age and ability and play a non-competitive game. There is no score kept and every team wins.

There will be a Fall and Spring season that will follow the intramural season. We also plan to participate in a tournament each season with clubs from other towns on Long Island with similar programs. This also is a non-competitive tournament that will enable the children to experience playing against other teams.

Family Registration Fees:

  • 1st Player: $50
  • 2nd Player: $50
  • 3rd Player: $50
  • 4th or more Player: $0 (free)

    * all players must be registered together on 1 order to automatically receive the family discount
